Introduction

In this section some background information regarding SQL Server's FTS/iFTS technology is described in order to obtain a more in-depth understanding of the integration of native database technologies into Smartsite iXperion's Faceted Search. With this knowledge, it will be easier to fine-tune some site-specific settings and queries which may increase performance, since Faceted Search's performance is entirely focused on generic websites and webapplications.

Furthermore, this background information will describe some flaws and limitations of the native FTS/iFTS features which some of them are improved in Smartsite iXperion's Faceted Search.
