Event Subscription Service - client configuration

Release 1.0 - ...

The Smartsite Developers Console connects to the Event Subscription Service running on the publication server. Within the Options dialog you can specify the remote address, the local port to be used (defaults to 8177), or by unchecking the Connect to the Event Subscription Service checkbox you can disable connecting to this service.

When starting the Smartsite Developers Console you might (after a few seconds) receive the error message shown below.

Connection failure

As the messages indicates, the most likely cause of an error is the local Windows Firewall settings, which prevents the publication server and the client (the Smartsite Developers Console) to communicate with each other.

To fix this problem you must add an port exception. Open the Windows Firewall settings dialog.

Windows Firewall Settings Dialog

Select the Exceptions tab.

Windows Firewall - Exceptions tab

Click the Add Port button.

Windows Firewall - Add Port

Fill in a name, e.g. Smartsite Event Subscription Service, and a port number, which should correspond with the local port setting of the Smartsite Developers Console.

You also might want to use the Change scope dialog to restrict further access to this specific port.
